Chile will take center stage at LIBER 2025 as Guest of Honor. Organized by IFEMA MADRID together with the Federation of Publishers' Guilds of Spain (FGEE), the 43rd edition of the International Book Fair will offer from October 7 to 9 a privileged space to disseminate and promote Chile's literary and publishing wealth. Chile's participation is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the Chilean Embassy in Spain, ProChile, DIRAC and Imagen de Chile.

Chile's presence in this edition as Guest of Honor also coincides with the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to Gabriela Mistral, the first Latin American author to receive this recognition. Her figure will be one of the central themes of the program, with activities that put her legacy in dialogue with the contemporary voices of Chilean literature.

"We are very happy that Chile is Guest of Honor at the International Book Fair, LIBER 2025. This participation takes on even more relevance as it coincides with the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Gabriela Mistral's Nobel Prize, an emblematic figure of Chilean literature. Chile's presence at this important international event not only celebrates its rich literary tradition, but also opens new opportunities for the projection of its publishing industry, strengthening cultural ties and promoting contemporary authors on the global stage," said Carolina Arredondo Marzán, Chile's Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage.

A large and representative delegation

Chile will have a delegation of 17 participants at LIBER 2025, including publishers, agencies and other players in the book sector. The presence will bring together long-established imprints, independent projects and literary agencies, reflecting the bibliodiversity of the sector and the strength of the Chilean publishing industry.

Gabriel Guggisberg, ProChile's commercial attaché in Spain, emphasizes that "Chile is recognized as an emerging benchmark for its creativity and transversality in the publishing and literary industry. It stands out for its Nobel Prizes in literature, particularly with the first and only Spanish-speaking woman recognized to date with this award, Gabriela Mistral. Its authors and new voices have begun to strengthen new spaces and opportunities for commercial publishing exchanges.

The Chilean delegation at LIBER 2025 will be made up of Ebooks Patagonia, Escrito con Tiza, Minilupa, Dudo Ediciones, NautaColecciones Editores, Calcetines Animados, VLP Agency, Editorial Zig-Zag, Banda Propia, Descontexto Editores, Ediciones UC, Planeta Sostenible, Kindberg Editorial, Una casa de cartón and Humita Diseño, as well as María de los Ángeles Quinteros and Eduardo Castillo (Chilean Chamber of Books).

"According to current data of the Chilean publishing market, there are 665 publishing houses in our country, where fiction, poetry and children's and young people's literature stand out, as well as subjects such as Social Sciences, History and Literary Collections. Between 2020 and 2024, the growth of exports of goods (physical books) achieved 103%, from US$ 4.8 million to US$ 9.8 million. And considering also exports of services such as digital books, the total amount of book exports has reached over US$ 20 million", explains Raúl Vilches, head of Creative Economies of ProChile.

Chile's program of activities at LIBER 2025

Chile's agenda of activities will include round tables, conferences, readings and presentations that will allow the specialized public to learn about the diversity of current Chilean literature. On October 7 at 1:30 p.m., the Chile stand will be inaugurated, paying tribute to Gabriela Mistral with a choral reading of her texts by women writers from different generations.

In addition, during the three days of the Fair there will be other meetings with authors who will address the fantastic narrative, the origins of Chilean literature and highlight its poetic heritage. The program will also include book presentations and recitals that together with artistic interventions will show the cultural richness of Chile and the dynamism of its new generations.
