This cultural beacon, inaugurated in 1995, has dedicated three decades to preserving and disseminating the historical and natural wealth of South America, inviting visitors to embark on an unparalleled evolutionary journey through the continent's profound narrative.
The central tour unfolds over eight main rooms, tracing a narrative arc that begins 600 million years ago. Visitors travel from the coexistence of man with the American megafauna, through the flourishing of pre-Hispanic cultures and the encounter with Europe, to the formation of the Chilean identity and the modernity of the twentieth century.
This journey is enriched by nine thematic pavilions that delve into specific knowledge, including the acclaimed "The Great Rescue" pavilion, which recounts the epic story of the 33 miners of Atacama and was distinguished by the prestigious Independent News of London as one of the six best museum exhibits worldwide
.
"On its thirtieth anniversary, the Colchagua Museum reaffirms its vocation as a living space that not only preserves the past, but also dialogues with the present, inviting the community to connect with the deepest roots of our shared history," said Carlos Cardoen, president of the Cardoen Foundation.
The experience is completed with a visit to its renovated store, a space dedicated to national handicrafts where it is possible to purchase ceramics, jewelry, textiles and woodwork made by the best artisans in Chile, making each piece a tangible testimony of the visit.
For an autonomous and enriched immersion, the museum offers audio guides in Spanish and English and is open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, with guided tours available on weekends.
In addition, during the summer months, the cultural precinct comes to life with its "Night at the Museum" program, a unique opportunity to live an experience in the evening.
