Antonia Aedo, a 17-year-old Chilean student, is the creator of "Equivalente", an application distinguished among the 100 best in the world and among the 15 best in Latin America by Technovation Girls Challenge, an international event where she competed with 1,800 other applications worldwide.

According to Antonia, the idea for this app arose from the case of her mother, who takes medicine every day due to a degenerative disease. The application allows the user to compare the prices of medicines, detect the lowest cost ones and locate the pharmacies where they can be found. The app also reminds the user of the times to take the medication.
Antonia's next step is to make "Equivalente" a reality and make it available on the PlayStore to help many, many more people, an example of how a local innovation can solve global needs.

The development of this application was part of the educational program of the Technovation Girls Chile Foundation, an initiative in which volunteer teachers and technology experts teach programming to girls and adolescents so that they can develop their own ideas and help their communities.
This project, according to Constanza Díaz, executive director of the foundation, contributes to reducing the gender gap in the programming field.

Since 2010, more than 100,000 girls and teenagers from 105 countries have participated in the Technovation Girls Challenge, creating mobile applications that have contributed to solving problems in local and regional communities around the globe.
