Chilean delegation achieves historic performance at the Parapan American Youth Games 2025

With 89 medals and fourth place overall, Chile achieved its best result in the continental competition, which brought together more than 900 athletes from 27 countries, reaffirming the country's capacity to organize major international sporting events.

The Chilean athletes present at the Parapan American Youth Games 2025 had an outstanding performance. With this record, Chile even surpassed the sum of the medals obtained in its three previous participations, which totaled 75 medals, consolidating a sustained advance in national youth Paralympic sport.

Among the main results were the performance of swimmer Agustín Pavez, top gold medalist of the event with five gold medals and one silver; sprinter María Jesús Lara, three-time champion in the 100, 200 and 400 meter races; and the representatives of the Biobío Region's powerlifting team, Matías Pezo, Sayén Cortés and Renata Encina, all double gold medalists.

Tennis player Cristóbal García won the first gold medal for Chile and the tournament, marking the beginning of an outstanding national participation that positioned the host country among the emerging powers in youth Paralympic sport.

The 2025 Youth Parapan American Games brought together more than 900 athletes from 27 countries, who competed in 14 disciplines developed in the O'Higgins and Metropolitan regions, venues of the sporting event.

The Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, highlighted the relevance of the event in projecting the country as a venue for high-level international competitions and as a platform for the development of adapted sports. "We reaffirm something that Chile has strongly demonstrated in recent years: we are a country capable of organizing major sporting events with seriousness, passion and a sense of community. We did it with the Pan American and Parapan American Games of Santiago 2023, recently with the women's basketball Americup, the FIFA U-20 World Cup and the Track Cycling World Cup," he said.

The sixth edition of the Parapan American Youth Games represented a new step forward in the promotion of inclusive sport in the continent and reinforced Chile's commitment to the development of the Paralympic movement and integration through sport.
