Imagen de Chile presents its documentary in Montreal during the COP15 on Biodiversity

"I am the Earth. Stories from the end of the world" was exhibited at Concordia University to show how Chile is creating a future in climate change and developing innovations to address global warming.

Within the framework of the COP15 on Biodiversity, held in Montreal between December 7 and 19, a screening of the Chilean documentary "Soy la Tierra. Stories from the end of the world", an event organized by the Consulate General of Chile in Montreal, Concordia University and Fundación Imagen de Chile.

After the screening of the Imagen de Chile documentary, a panel was held with the participation of Maximiliano Bello -Global Fellow, Latin American Program, Wilson Center and international ocean policy consultant-; Rebecca Tittler -academic at Loyola College for Diversity and Sustainability, U. of Concordia; and Cristián Sjögren -co-founder & CEO of AgroUrbana, one of the stories portrayed in the film-. The panel was moderated by Éliane Ubalijoro, PhD, executive director of Sustainability in the Digital Age, a U. Concordia think tank focused on sustainability.

"For us it is very important to be present at major international events on environmental protection, biodiversity and climate action, because through this documentary we show how Chile is developing relevant, real and concrete solutions to address global warming and how we are becoming as a country a key player in climate action, not only at the level of public policy, but at the citizen level with developments and proposals from different areas. We want the world to know the contributions of Chilean men and women and inspire them to act on this urgent issue that concerns us all," said the Marketing Director of Imagen de Chile, Ximena Baeza.

In this regard, the Consul General of Chile in Montreal, Felipe Orellana, highlighted the importance of this world summit. "In these days Montreal has become the world capital of biodiversity, with nearly 20 thousand delegates from around the world attending COP15, the most important conference in the last decade. In this context, the Consulate General of Chile partnered with Concordia University and Imagen de Chile to exhibit, on the margins of COP15, the documentary film Soy la Tierra. Stories from the end of the world, which recounts a series of initiatives that various representatives of our civil society have undertaken to protect the environment," said Orellana.

Likewise, William Cheaib, Associate VP of Concordia University, praised the documentary and the care for the environment. "In an inspiring journey, I Am Earth reminds us that the beauty of our planet is inseparable from its fragility. No matter where we live, Canada, Chile or another country, the Earth is our only home. We all have the same passport and we are all co-responsible for the future of our planet. As a next-generation university, Concordia has a strong and enduring commitment to sustainability. We believe that it is through collaboration and collective action that we can have a real and positive impact on our planet. We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with Chile," said Cheaib.

I am the Earth. Stories from the end of the world

The documentary "I am the Earth. Stories from the end of the world" seeks to show Chilean initiatives that provide solutions to face climate change through five thematic axes: sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, renewable energies, solutions to the water crisis and astronomy.

The outstanding and award-winning Chilean documentary filmmaker, Maite Alberdi, participated in the general direction of the medium-length film, which also included the work of directors María Paz González, Sebastián Fernández and Santiago Correa. The production was in charge of Fábula.
