From the driest desert on the planet to the Antarctic ice sheets, passing through the Andes mountain range, salt flats, temperate forests, wetlands, and an ocean rich in biodiversity, Chile’s territory encompasses a wide range of natural conditions that offer unique opportunities for scientific research and the development of sustainable solutions to the major challenges facing humanity. This geography makes it possible to study phenomena related to climate change, biodiversity, the evolution of the planet, the energy transition, ecosystem conservation, and the relationship between communities and their environment.
In addition to these characteristics, there is a world-class scientific community and research capabilities in strategic areas, which make it possible to transform these natural conditions into opportunities for generating knowledge. In this context, the Natural Laboratoriesserve as ideal settings for conducting cutting-edge research and addressing, from Chile, scientific questions of global significance.
With the goal of helping to promote this aspect of the country, the Brand Marketing Directorate of Chile, in collaboration with the Subdirectorate of Networks, Strategy, and Knowledge of the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) and the seven Natural Laboratory Hubs funded by ANID, undertook an initiative aimed at building a shared narrative that highlights the natural, scientific, and cultural uniqueness of these territories and their contribution to the generation of knowledge.
The initiative also calls for the development of specific narratives for each of the seven nodes—Landata, LabAncestral, Salares, Central-Northern Ocean, Southern Andes, Subantarctic, and Antarctic—highlighting the characteristics that distinguish each territory, the scientific questions addressed there, and their contribution to our understanding of global phenomena.
“This collaborative effort aims to ensure that the exceptional conditions Chile offers for research are also part of the narrative through which the country presents itself to the world, highlighting the capacity of its regions and its scientific community to generate knowledge and contribute to addressing major global challenges,” said Fernanda Villalobos, project manager at Marca Chile.
