The efforts of Chilean men and women to confront climate change will reach the big screen at the most important annual global sustainability event in New York. The documentary "I am the Earth. Stories from the end of the world", presented and produced by Imagen de Chile, will be shown during Climate Week and the Global Citizen Festival 2022, an annual event that brings together international leaders from business, government and civil society to discuss and present initiatives on climate change, to be held between September 19 and 25.
"We are very proud that the efforts of Chilean men and women against climate change can be seen on one of the most important stages of sustainability at the international level," said the executive director of Imagen de Chile, Constanza Cea. "This documentary has an international focus: it seeks to connect with audiences through emotion, showing talent and in a geographic location that allows it to make a relevant contribution," added Cea.
The event will be held in collaboration with the International Festival of Social Innovation (fiiS) and Global Citizen, for an audience of decision makers, opinion leaders, representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, civil society and key journalists in sustainability and film.
"We are very happy to, through collaboration, be able to work on this joint effort with Imagen de Chile and Global Citizen," said fiiS co-founder and executive director Jonathan Herzfeld. "Presenting these stories that show the best of our country and our people fills us with pride, and allows us to publicize stories about how day by day our country works for a sustainable world," he added.
Throughout 46 minutes, the film takes a look at different initiatives and cases where Chileans contribute to mitigate the effects of climate change, from large projects or scientific innovations, to everyday citizen actions, all collectively necessary. The focus of this documentary is to show how Chile is contributing to an issue that touches all of humanity such as climate change, through 5 thematic axes: sustainable agriculture, forest and biodiversity conservation, renewable energies, water crisis and astronomy.
The medium-length film was directed by the renowned Oscar-nominated director in 2021, Maite Alberdi, who worked together with unit directors María Paz González, Sebastián Fernández and Santiago Correa. The documentary was produced by Fábula, a production company that won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 2018 with the film "A Fantastic Woman".
