From Chile to the world, this Sunday begins #StgoaMil, one of the most important arts festivals in Latin America, which in this edition and in tune with the times we live in, brings a new and innovative hybrid mode with virtual and face-to-face scenarios.

More than 150 national and international shows from 19 countries will be part of the XXVIII version of the well-known Santiago a Mil Festival, which begins today in Chile under the slogan #VolverAEncontrarnos and will run from January 3 to 24.

Culture is essential for everyone, but in times of pandemic, the arts and the different areas have had to reinvent themselves and this meeting will be no exception, as it will have an innovative face-to-face-virtual format that will bring the talent of hundreds of creators to the whole world thanks to technology. The scenarios will be as varied as the performances, which will take place in theaters, streets and unconventional spaces, in addition to the important online programming, in order to enjoy, but taking care of ourselves.

This year the focus will be mainly on the work of Latin American Women Creators, as well as that of great references of the world contemporary scene such as Marina Abramovic, Laurie Anderson, Rufus Wainwright, Joel Pommerat, Robert Lepage and Romeo Castellucci, among others. Chile will present the talent of different world-renowned artists such as the new 31 Minutos, Delight Lab, Iván Navarro, LasTesis, among others.

Theater, dance, music, opera, circus and much more will come together in this festival that has 27 years of theatrical tradition, which since its inception has focused on the power of encounter that the arts, theater and people have to transform society; to create a future with more spectators interested in artistic expressions.

"More than a festival, Santiago a Mil is already part of people's lives. It was a real challenge for us to continue with the idea of doing it and not give up, and we are convinced that we are going in the right direction and that the public will value this instance as a reunion with the performing arts, the artists, our venues and the city. We want to meet again without fear, take care of each other and let ourselves be carried away by the magic of theater and the diverse artistic languages that converge here," says Carmen Romero, general director of Fundación Teatro a Mil.

"Artists have resisted and so have we. Today more than ever, culture is essential and fundamental for the construction of identity, community and historical memory," he adds.

Another new feature of this festival is that, for the first time, it will reach the 15 regions of Chile thanks to the "Territorios Creativos" program, an initiative that highlights local creation through a show in each region of the country.
