With more than five hundred years of history, Ballet has become one of the most notable and recognized artistic expressions in the world. And while today countries like Italy, England, Russia or France are usually associated with the most renowned dancers in this performing art, Chile has also been the birthplace of choreographers who are now recognized globally.
Cesar Morales
First figure of the Royal Ballet of Birmingham in England, César Morales has developed his entire artistic career around this dance that has led him to debut on the main stages of the world. Trained at the Ballet School of the Municipal Theater in Santiago and later at the Houston Ballet Academy, Morales has been widely recognized, from the beginning of his career with gold medals during the international competitions in Prague and New York in 2002 and 2003, to being awarded during the National Dance Awards 2021 and as best dancer at the Dancing Times Awards.
Amanda Piña
Choreographer and dancer born into a Chilean-Mexican family, this reference of national contemporary dance has been recognized for her artistic work, through which she seeks to "decolonize" the arts and culture, drawing inspiration for her performance from elements of non-Western cultures. Currently living in Vienna, the national artist began her training in physical theater in Santiago de Chile, and then continued with theater anthropology in Barcelona and classical, modern and contemporary dance in Mexico. Among her most outstanding works are "Movimientos Humanos en Peligro", a project dating back to 2014, which is dedicated to dances and cultural practices that have already disappeared or are in danger of extinction.
Sebastian Vinet
With his beginnings at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago, and six years studying at the Houston Ballet Academy, Sebastián Vinet has positioned himself as one of the greatest national exponents of ballet, with a great international presence marked by his participation in companies such as the San Francisco Ballet, the Ballet de Santiago and the Compañía Nacional de Danza in Mexico, gaining worldwide renown. In mid-2022, the national choreographer announced an audition for the "dancers of tomorrow", an action with which he sought to select young talents of Chilean dance to be part of a scholarship program that will take them to live a high-level experience in New York, Salt Lake City and Philadelphia.
