Desierto Florido to be declared national park during 2023

  • This new protected area will protect the biodiversity of the site and one of the most attractive phenomena in the area. 
  • Located 30 km south of Copiapó and 80 km north of Vallenar, it would become the sixth national park in the northern part of our country.

In the framework of the International Environment Day, President Gabriel Boric announced the creation of the new Desierto Florido National Park, which seeks to protect the biodiversity of the place and the flowering process in the driest desert in the world, where it is possible to observe more than 200 species of flowers.

This new conservation area would be located in the Atacama Region, in the Llanos and Chañarcillo sectors, with the highest environmental protection standard in the country and whose creation decree is expected to be published in the Official Gazette in the first quarter of 2023.
