A delegation of Chilean women from different regions and sectors will disembark at Expo Osaka 2025. Headed by the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Claudia Sanhueza, and the executive director of the Fundación Imagen de Chile, María Teresa Saldías, they will be joined by four of the Mapuche artisans who have created the Makün: The Cloak of Chilethe 242 m² textile work that is the centerpiece of the Chilean pavilion.

The delegation will participate in science, culture, entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability activities, as part of the Chile Country of Women theme week, which takes its name from the campaign led by Fundación Imagen de Chile, aimed at highlighting the role of women and the country's progress in gender equality at a global level.

Progress with figures

The Global Gender Gap Report 2025 ranked Chile 22nd in the world (27th in 2023) and 4th in Latin America, thanks to improvements in economic participation, education, political empowerment and health. Chile was also a pioneer in initiating a parity constituent process and today women represent 51.26% of the electoral roll and 59% of participation in the last presidential election.
In the legislative branch, they reach 35% in the Chamber of Deputies and 26% in the Senate.

According to UN Women, Chile ranks sixth in the world in female participation in ministries.
The progress is reflected in the labor world: in 2023, 41% of Senior Public Management appointments were women, while participation in mining reached 23.1%, the highest globally. In 2025, the law "More Women on Boards of Directors" came into force, which promotes their presence in business decision-making.

In higher education, women are in the majority with 52.5% of new entries and are advancing in STEM areas, where they already represent 32.5% of enrollments. They also stand out in research and academic leadership, with parity in doctoral scholarships and international recognition.

In addition to this, there are structural policies such as parental co-responsibility, the law on reparations for victims of femicide and the first Feminist Foreign Policy in South America.

A campaign that transcended

Launched in March 2024 by Imagen de Chile, the Chile Country of Women campaign reached more than 18 million people on social networks, 2 million views on YouTube and was recognized at the City Nation Place Awards 2024. Today, at Expo Osaka 2025, it is consolidated as part of the country's identity: gender equality is present in Chile and the driving force behind its projection to the world.
