The world's most important publishing trade fair will take place between October 15 and 19 in Germany, with a Chilean delegation already deployed in the city. It is the Frankfurt Book Fairone of the most important publishing meetings, which brings together professionals from the entire book ecosystem, including publishers, translators, agents, authors and the general public.

"Chile's participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025 reaffirms our commitment to the internationalization of Chilean literature and culture. This space, which brings together the main players in the publishing world, allows us to showcase the quality, diversity and creative force of authors and publishers. At the same time, it marks a new step forward on the road to 2027, when Chile will be the fair's Guest of Honor. This sustained presence reflects a collaborative work between public and private institutions, which seeks to strengthen the networks of our sector and project Chilean creation on the global cultural scene," said the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Carolina Arredondo.

In this edition, Chile's participation continues to gain relevance as part of the project "Chile, Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair2027". The country will be the fourth in Latin America to receive this distinction, after Mexico (1992), Brazil (1994 and 2013) and Argentina (2010).

María Teresa Saldías Morales, executive director of Fundación Imagen de Chile points out that: "Every time Chile participates in a cultural space at an international level, we share more than just our works: we share our way of looking at the world. These instances, such as the Frankfurt Book Fair, are a showcase to show the creativity, talent and cultural depth that define our country, and to continue building bridges with other cultures through art and ideas".

DIRAC's director, Ambassador Mauricio Hurtado, comments: "Being present in Frankfurt is always a privilege and, this year, it is even more relevant as we prepare to be Guest of Honor in 2027. In this context, we reaffirm our commitment to 'Translating Chile', a program to support foreign publishers that, exceptionally in 2025, opened an exclusive call to publish Chilean works in German. This initiative reflects the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cultural diplomacy and the international projection of our voices and books".

Since its first participation with a delegation in 2014, Chile has strengthened its presence year by year. In 2025, the national delegation is composed of more than 20 representatives of the publishing ecosystem, together with the literary exhibition of various publishers, guilds and literary agencies. This presence seeks to expand the visibility of Chilean books in the international market, promote the circulation of national works and authors and consolidate strategic networks for the sale of rights and the internationalization of publishing production.

"In 2024, publishing exports to Europe reached US$ 677 thousand, with shipments of US$ 19 thousand to Germany. This year, ProChile developed a call for applications to which 38 publishers applied for Frankfurt, and we were able to put together a rich catalog of 147 books to promote in the German market. Chile is recognized for its diversity of themes, contents and literary prizes, and the Frankfurt International Book Fair is a very relevant instance to continue showing the best of Chile and the publishing industry," said Germán Vergara, ProChile's commercial attaché in Germany.
