Chile, the best natural sports and adventure sports field in the world

Accessibility settings

Our diverse and extreme territory at the end of the world invites you to experience it in connection with our exuberant landscapes, flora and fauna. From the Atacama Desert to Antarctica, and from the sea to the Cordillera, Chile is more than a destination, it is an outdoor experience for adventure and action lovers who demand a sustainable environment.

For six years now, in the eyes of the world, Chile has been the "Best Adventure Tourism Destination" on the planet, and two years ago it was also awarded the medal of "Best Green Destination" at the World Travel Awards, the Oscars of Tourism. Chile is a world-class outdoor tourism destination, with a unique and diverse offer: the Atacama Desert to the north; more than 4,000 km of Pacific coastline to the west; the Andes Mountains to the east; and to the south, Patagonia and Antarctica.

Pristine and little explored natural scenery today attracts the most demanding and extreme adventurers who travel from all over the world with their equipment to slide down desert dunes on sandboards; ski down mountains and volcanoes; practice nautical sports such as diving, surfing, kayaking and kitesurfing in the immensity of the Pacific Ocean; cross expanses of native forest in canopy; climb and spend days in the mountains with professional mountaineering circuits; fly fishing and birdwatching in the rivers of Patagonia; or explore the millenary ice fields of the Andes; cross extensions of native forest in canopy; climb and walk for days in the mountains with professional mountaineering circuits; fly fishing and birdwatching in the rivers of Patagonia; or explore the millenary ice fields and the white continent, among many others.

Green destination? More than 20% of Chile's territory corresponds to protected wilderness areas, distributed in 42 national parks, 46 national reserves and 18 natural monuments. We are also the fifth country with the largest number of marine protected areas. In recent years, Chile is having worldwide leadership in conservation due to its recognized capacity and willingness to create new protected areas. Only from 2017 to date, for example, six national parks have been created, adding almost 3.8 million new hectares (almost the size of Switzerland) to the National System of State Protected Wildlife Areas, making us a country that is making significant progress in meeting the current international goals proposed in the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, a key international instrument for sustainable development.

The adventure in Chile has no limits, it does not end even when night falls. Constellations, planets, shooting stars and all kinds of stars are present in our pure skies, the cleanest in the entire southern hemisphere. The north of Chile offers more than 300 clear days a year and a scarce light pollution that allows contemplating the stars in the middle of nature as in few places in the world, which has allowed the development of a luxury Astrotourism with world-class observatories, open to the public. The Elqui Valley and San Pedro de Atacama are the most visited destinations to embark on the adventure of exploring the universe.
