Two months before the start of the Tokyo Olympic Games, the Chilean delegation is already breaking records: not only does it have the most disciplines represented in national history, but it is also on its way to becoming one of the largest ever to represent Chile.

After its postponement in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Tokyo is preparing to host the Olympic Games, the world's most important sporting event, from July 23 to August 8.

With a total of 45 qualified athletes, the Team Chile delegation is the fifth largest in the history of Chile in an Olympic Games, only surpassed by Helsinki 1952 (58), London 1948 (56), Los Angeles 1984 (55) and Sydney 2000 (52), considering the number of athletes who actually competed in each event, according to information from the Chilean Olympic Committee.

"It is a great indicator that this delegation is one of the largest in history, it speaks very well of the work of our athletes, their federations and the support that has been provided by the Olympic Plan during the last ten years," said the president of the Chilean Olympic Committee, Miguel Angel Mujica.

Additionally, with this delegation, Chile will be represented in at least 20 different sports, the largest number in the country's Olympic history: Athletics, Canoeing, Cycling, Water Sports, Equestrian, Fencing, Golf, Gymnastics, Women's Soccer, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Pentathlon, Rowing, Skateboarding (the Olympic debut of this discipline), Taekwondo, Tennis, Table Tennis, Shooting, Archery, Sailing. And there are still a dozen disciplines that can add more athletes to the delegation.

"What this group of qualifiers has achieved is wonderful: it will be one of the largest delegations in terms of number of disciplines and athletes, in addition, the qualification of women's soccer meant the relocation of a collective team to an event of this nature after 20 years of absence," said the Minister of Sport, Cecilia Perez.

So far, the roster is made up as follows:

Kristel Köbrich - Swimming.
