Chile plans to begin a bidding process within a month to award USD 50 million in subsidies for green hydrogen projects as part of the largest copper producer's efforts to become carbon neutral.
The Ministry of Energy and Mining has identified around 40 projects in industries including mining and infrastructure, and has received considerable expressions of interest from local and foreign groups, said Energy Minister Juan Carlos Jobet. The funds will be awarded during the year.
"We have seen a breakthrough in green hydrogen," Jobet commented in an interview Wednesday. "In this area, the main objective is to increase production and reduce the cost of electrolysis, which represents the biggest challenge."
