There is a good reason why Chile is leading the race for COVID vaccines, and not Mexico or Venezuela.

Although Latin America is lagging well behind in getting COVID-19 vaccines to its people compared to the United States and Europe, one country in the region stands out for its success in getting vaccines ahead of its neighbors: Chile.

In fact, Chile has already surpassed China, Germany, France, Spain and many other countries in vaccinating its population.

Before delving into what Chile did right, let's review the numbers. According to Oxford University's Ourworldindata.org daily database of COVID-19 vaccinations worldwide, Chile has administered 5.6 doses of vaccine per 100 people since Feb. 10.

In comparison, Germany has distributed 4 doses of vaccine per 100 people, China 2.8, Brazil 1.8, Argentina 1.1 and Mexico only 0.6. Israel is the country that has delivered the most vaccines in the world, followed by the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.
