On May15th and16th, Chileans headed to the polls to vote for the people who will be charged with drafting the new Constitution. The Constitutional Convention elected brings together representatives from different political sectors and independents, as well as young people and the elderly, including representatives of indigenous peoples.
The Constitutional Convention is composed by 155 members. One of the particularities of this constituent process is that 77 seats belong to women and 78 seats belong to men, a triumph for gender parity unprecedented anywhere in the world.
Lawyers, teachers, journalists, sociologists, scientists and engineers are some of the various backgrounds of the people who will write the new Constitution, which aims to unite the diverse views, build a framework of unity and to lay the foundations for a more just and equal country for all.
