After a successful run in national theaters, where it received a critical acclaim and was welcomed by more than 100,000 people, the movie Denomination of Origin is preparing to cross borders: starting Wednesday, July 24, it will be available in streaming format through www.denominaciondeorigen.cl, for a limited period of 30 days. Access will be simple and without subscriptions, allowing people from all over Chile and the world to rent the film from any device.
Directed by Chilean filmmaker Tomás Alzamora and starring real neighbors from the Ñuble Region, the film interweaves documentary and fiction to tell, with humor and a sense of belonging, the story of the social movement that originated in San Carlos when Chillán was officially recognized as the birthplace of longaniza. Through this "symbolic battle", Denomination of Origin values local identity and gastronomic heritage, elements that also build the country's image from the everyday and the authentic.
In an interview with Imagen de Chile, Tomás Alzamora highlighted the importance of telling stories deeply linked to the territory, as a way of representing Chile in its diversity:
"Telling stories from the territory is very relevant. We believe that the rural is also modern, that the local can be universal and that a story about a sausage can have the same value as a story about a superhero," said the director.
This global streaming premiere allows this story to reach beyond traditional theaters, connecting with diverse audiences and showing a Chile that is creative, decentralized and proud of its roots. At a time when digital platforms are key to the international circulation of cinema, Denomination of Origin becomes a new showcase for national culture.
