Applications will be received until January 31 to participate in this second version of the initiative, organized by Wikimedia Chile and Imagen de Chile, which this year will award the categories "Best photography", "Unpublished content" and "Regional category".
With the objective of promoting visual knowledge and making visible diverse diverse neighborhoods and territories of our country, Wikimedia Chile and Fundación Imagen de Chile called for the second version of the photo contest "Not a neighborhood without a photo", whose call will be open until January 31.
According to Patricia Díaz Rubio, executive director of Wikimedia Chile, "photography has the characteristic of transporting us and placing us in a fragment of time. It allows us to reconstruct moments and facts of our personal history and that of the country, and this contest seeks to value this documentary character and, in the digital era, to ensure that these traces of history are available to all people.
Rossana Dresdner, executive director of Imagen de Chile, highlighted the importance of technology in rescuing and disseminating the Chilean identity: "Through universal platforms such as Wikimedia Commons, we can project to the world the daily life of Chile's neighborhoods, promoting the construction of an honest and genuine country image, as a result of a collective effort. This contest invites us to look at, value and share our identity from the everyday, and make them together, thus adding to the #ChileLoHacemosTodos campaign that we promote from the Foundation".
The contest will award three main categories: "Best Photograph", to recognize the technical and artistic quality of the images; "Unpublished Content", which will reward those photographs that offer new and little-explored perspectives of Chile's neighborhoods; and "Regional Content", aimed at highlighting the unique elements of the different areas of the country. In addition, an honorable mention will be awarded to recognize works that stand out for their documentary value or visual impact.
Those interested should create a Wikimedia Commons account at this link by confirming their email address. Then, they must upload their photographs on the page: https://w.wiki/CDVU, attaching as much information as possible. All images uploaded to the platform from December 1 to January 31, 2025 (Chilean mainland time) will be considered.
The contestant must be the author of the photo, which must be uploaded under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 License, or other Wikimedia Commons compatible licenses. Also, photographs of portraits of people or close-ups must have a simple document of assignment of image rights. All photographs that are shortlisted to be awarded will become part of the Audiovisual Image Bank of Chile.
The jury of the contest will be composed of members of the Wikimedia Chile team and board of directors and the Imagen de Chile team. The winners in each category will receive Gifts Card from Amazon and from the store Created in Chile, the latter belonging to the Made by Chileans program of Imagen de Chile.
