Ingredients
  • 1 orange with peel and juice
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) of red wine
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 - 3 cloves
  • 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 6 firm pears with their peduncles and peeled.
Instructions
  • Step 1 - In a saucepan place the orange peel and juice together with the wine, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and 1 liter of cold water.
  • Step 2 - Boil for 3 minutes. Reduce heat and add pears, cover and cook over low heat until pears are soft for 30 to 45 minutes, turning to cook evenly.
  • Step 3 - Carefully remove the pears to a bowl and set aside.
  • Step 4 - Return the cooking liquid to a boil over medium heat for 10 minutes or until slightly thickened. Pour the liquid over the pears in the bowl and refrigerate. Serve the pears with the syrup.
  • Step 5 - Note: They can also be prepared in pieces or balls, taking care to reduce cooking times so that they keep their shape.
