  • 1 kilo of cooked and peeled hominy wheat
  • 1 tablespoon of lard or butter
  • Salt to taste
  • Frying oil
  • Honey
  • Marmalade
  • Pebre
  • Garlic sauce or herbs to serve.
  • Step 1 - In a mortar and pestle grind the wheat to a paste. Place in a bowl and add lard or butter and season with salt.
  • Step 2 - Form the dough into elongated loaves and taper the ends.
  • Step 3 - Deep fried version: fry the catutos in abundant oil until lightly browned. Remove excess oil with absorbent paper.
  • Step 4 - Baked version: Bake at 170ºC until golden brown.
  • Step 5 - Serve the catutos with honey or jam, it can also be in a salted version with pebre or garlic sauce.
