We have adopted an inclusive approach to our project, ensuring that all facilities meet the highest standards of accessibility and sustainability.
This is the conviction of the Minister of Sport, Jaime Pizarro, who has been promoting Chile's intention during the development of the Paris 2024 Games, highlighting its progress in infrastructure, gender equality, sustainability and organizational capacity.
With Paris as a backdrop, and in the midst of the development of the 2024 Paralympic Games, the Chilean Minister of Sport, Jaime Pizarro, has developed several conversations with the aim of disseminating Chile's intention to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the conditions that the country offers.
The Secretary of State highlighted the progress made by the country to host international sporting events, which were consolidated with the organization of the Pan American and Parapan American Games Santiago 2023. He highlighted the development of infrastructure and management capacity, as well as Chile's commitment to Olympic and Paralympic values, such as sustainability, gender equality and inclusion.
"We have adopted an inclusive approach in our project, ensuring that all facilities meet the highest standards of accessibility and sustainability. Proof of this is that we had the first carbon neutral games on the continent," he emphasized.
A process that has just begun
As part of this process of declaration of intentions, local authorities have participated in conversations with the International Olympic Committee, in order to deepen the requirements and standards required. "It will be a long process, with various stages and challenges, but we are prepared to face it with the objective of positioning Chile as a solid and promising candidate," concluded Pizarro.
Part of this work, according to the Secretary of State, also involves observing and learning from the experience of other organizers, as in the case of Paris, a city that innovated by holding an opening ceremony outside a sports venue .
"Public space was used and the logic of having to build large venues changed, and some disciplines moved to other cities outside Paris, a model that is feasible to replicate in Chile," he said.
The Secretary of State also referred to the positive impact that these games would have on the social and economic development not only of Chile, but of the region as a whole. "We are convinced that our country has the capacity and enthusiasm to organize an event of this magnitude, which will leave a lasting legacy for future generations."
In the coming months, Chile will host other sporting events, such as the Track Cycling World Cup (UCI), the U-20 Football World Cup (FIFA), the Women's Basketball World Cup (FIBA), the Parapan American Youth Games, in addition to the recent confirmation of the Special Olympics 2027.
