This Wednesday, the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH) announced the discovery in Chilean Patagonia of a new mammal species from the Late Cretaceous period, dating back 72 to 74 million years. This new species, named "Orretherium tzen", was discovered on Cerro Guido in the Magallanes Region of southern Chile, some 2,700 kilometers south of the capital city of Santiago, after a jawbone with five consecutive teeth was found. The discovery was made in a site considered to be one of the largest dinosaur fossil reservoirs in the region.
