Chile climbed from 41st place in 2023 to 38th place in 2024 in the Nation Brands Index (NBI), an international study that evaluates the global reputation positioning of 50 nations in the world. Based on this, we review 7 other rankings -among several- in which Chile left its mark in 2024.
Chile leads the Human Development Index (HDI) 2024 in the region, reaching 0.860, which places it 44th in the world. It stands out for its progress in health, education and income. Likewise, the country's capital, Santiago, also appears in international measurements in this area, such as The Economist and Mercer Consulting, which place it in third place among the cities with the best quality of life in South America.
Two Chilean universities, the Pontificia Universidad Católica and the Universidad de Chile, are among the six best on the continent in the ranking of the British consulting firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 2025. At the same time, the same report recognizes Santiago among the 50 best cities in the world to study, thanks to its affordability, livability and student diversity.
Santiago's Boragó restaurant continues to shine in the ranking of Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2024. In addition, Viña Don Melchor was crowned the best wine in the world according to Wine Spectator 2024, while other Chilean wineries occupied prominent places, reaffirming the country's reputation as a gastronomic and enological "paradise". Meanwhile, in the list "The World's Greatest Places of 2024" prepared by Time Magazine, the Yum Cha restaurant in Santiago and the Ruta de los Abastos in the O'Higgins Region appear as references of the diversity and quality of local gastronomy.
Chile is ranked 20th worldwide in the Energy Transition Index 2024, climbing seven positions compared to the previous year. In addition, the country was recognized by the E-Bus Radar platform for having the largest fleet of electric buses outside China, with 2,480 units in circulation in Santiago.
In the Global Gender Gap 2024, Chile advanced six places, reaching the 21st position worldwide (in 2006 we were 78th). This rapid progress is evidence of its commitment to equality, inclusion and the promotion of equal opportunities.
Chile was awarded at the World Travel Awards 2024 as the best destination in categories such as Adventure, Green and Romantic Tourism. Meanwhile, the British travel guide Rough Guides recognized Chile as one of the twenty most beautiful countries in the world.
In the World Competitiveness Ranking 2024 Chile ranks first in the region and 44th globally. In terms of digital competitiveness, the IMD ranks among the top three in the continent. It also climbed to 51st place in the Global Innovation Index, standing out for its ability to attract investment and foster entrepreneurial creativity.
