For the first time, Chile will host the 47th Meeting of the Permanent Consultative Committee I: Telecommunications of the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) of the Organization of American States (OAS), which will be held from August 18-22 in Santiago.

The meeting, which will bring together representatives from 30 countries, aims to discuss significant connectivity, strategies to reduce the digital divide and the future of new telecommunications technologies. Among those attending are the executive secretary of CITEL, Óscar León; the president of the Permanent Consultative Committee, Víctor Martínez; the regional director of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Bruno Ramos, as well as the Chilean Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Claudio Araya.

"We are proud as a country to host such important events in digital matters. It is in instances like this where we can move forward together in overcoming digital divides and designing a digital future that allows the development of member countries. From this part of the world, we reaffirm our position as the center of digital activity in the Americas, enabling new opportunities for the entire region," said Undersecretary Claudio Araya.

The holding of this meeting adds to the leadership achieved by Chile in the digital field. In November 2024, our country hosted the Ninth Ministerial Conference on the Information Society and assumed the presidency of ECLAC's Digital Agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean.

About CITEL and its Permanent Consultative Committee The Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) is a specialized agency of the OAS dedicated to the development of telecommunications and information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the Americas. Its mission is to promote universal access to modern and affordable telecommunications, supporting countries in their policies and strategies, in addition to coordinating standards and harmonizing the use of the radio spectrum.

Within CITEL, the Permanent Consultative Committee (PCC) plays a technical advisory role, responsible for analyzing operational and regulatory aspects of telecommunications and formulating recommendations for decision-making at the regional level.
