The country participated in one of the most relevant meetings on the planet on green hydrogen, which covers the energy, industry and mobility sectors. Chilean representatives met with key players in the sector to promote the 'fuel of the future'.
Given its varied geography and climate, Chile is one of the countries with the greatest potential in the world to become a leader in the green hydrogen industry and its derivatives. It is estimated that Chile will produce the cheapestgreen hydrogen in the world by 2030 and will be one of the few countries that will be able to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
Considering the above, in May 2024, Chile launched the Green Hydrogen Action Plan. The objective of this policy is to accelerate the energy transition, reduce carbon emissions and position the country as a leader in the production and export of this material.
In order to further promote the industry, Chilean authorities and representatives met with global leaders in this field to foster strategic alliances, attract investment and present the progress of the green hydrogen industry in the country.
In this context, the leading congress of the H2V industry and its derivatives at international level, organized by GL Events, gathered around 550 exhibitors from 30 countries and more than 11,000 visitors. The activity included a series of conferences, panels and workshops, with more than 300 speakers, who addressed different topics during three days.
The Chilean delegation, organized by FISA and H2 Chile, was led by the Undersecretary of Energy, Luis Felipe Ramos, with the sponsorship of EDF, HIF, ENGIE, CCI Franco Chilena, WOOD and the support of InvestChile and ProChile.
Representatives of associations and companies also played a leading role. Among the participants were: Business France, H2 Antofagasta, H2 Bio Bío, H2V Magallanes, Marval, EINAS, Electrival, Bond Energy Solutions, Hexágono Ingeniería and Incubadora de la UFRO, which reinforces the cooperation between Chilean and French companies, promoting innovation and the growth of the industry.

Carola Fuentes, general manager of FISA, stated that "we have met with the main players in the industry, in a public-private instance that seeks to promote innovation and collaboration to meet the challenges of the energy transition. This trade mission not only allows us to strengthen international ties, but also to highlight the renewed interest in the key role that Chile plays in the region as a benchmark in green hydrogen".
For his part, Undersecretary Luis Felipe Ramos emphasized that the government is working to secure financing for green hydrogen industrial projects by 2026. Furthermore, between 2027 and 2030, the goal is to “develop the green hydrogen value chain in order to achieve our objective of becoming a green hydrogen exporter and to establish a local value chain that demonstrates the industry’s benefits in each of the regions where it is being deployed.”

Among the strategic meetings that took place within the framework of this Congress, the meeting held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance between the governments of Chile and France and the private sector, where the strategic work that has been carried out was consolidated.
In its first phase, the National Green Hydrogen Plan aims to achieve an electrolysis capacity of 5 GW and produce 200 kilotons of green hydrogen per year starting this year. With 75 projects announced and investments totaling nearly $5 billion, Chile is developing the production, storage, and commercialization of green hydrogen, as well as its various potential applications.
For example, in 2024, the country unveiled South America’s first hydrogen-powered train, the first green hydrogen semi-trailer truck, the first hydrogen-powered buses, and the first 100% renewable power plant to supply an entire mine.
In addition, in 2024, Chile shipped more than 100,000 liters of e-fuel to Europe and the United States through the company HIF Global. It is worth noting that in April 2021, there were only nine green hydrogen projects in Chile, whereas by 2025, there are already 75 across the country.
