Easter Island gives us the gift of a pianist

Mahani Teave, 38, who is probably the only professional classical music artist on the remote island, has released her first album.

From his home, on his way to the highest peak of Rapa Nui, Mahani Teave described the power of the nature of this place to move us.

"From one side, I see the ocean with an almost 180-degree panorama," he commented in an interview he gave recently. "From the hill, the enveloping mist advances to the other side."

"The blanket of stars seems to imprint a 'papier-mâché texture' on the darkness of the sky," he said. When the sound of crickets ceases, a deep silence completes a breathtaking experience for the senses."

Teave, 38, learned to appreciate these starry night encounters during her childhood on Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island, the name imposed by European explorers in 1722. From there, one of the most remote inhabited islands on the planet, this pianist has earned a place in international concert halls.
