Chile was ranked as one of the countries at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence (AI) development in our region. This according to the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA) 2024, conducted by Cepal and the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (Cenia).
This is an important recognition considering that it is the first regional public study on this subject. In addition, our country leads the index for the second consecutive year, this time with the incorporation of more countries (19).
The main objective of this index is to evaluate the capacities installed in Latin American and Caribbean countries in relation to artificial intelligence. These capabilities include key aspects such as infrastructure, human capital, data availability, regulations, citizen participation and strategic development areas.
It should be noted that the ILIA 2024 edition expanded its geographic scope. It now covers 19 countries in total and updated its matrix of indicators, analyzing 76 variables around three main dimensions:
- Enabling Factors, Research
- Development and Adoption
- Governance
These dimensions allow for a comprehensive view of the AI ecosystem in the region, facilitating the identification of strategic opportunities and the adoption of public policies that promote the sustainable development of artificial intelligence.
In the ILIA(Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index) 2024, Chile once again ranks as one of the top performers in several key areas of the index. In terms of total score, Chile ranks among the regional leaders in governance, infrastructure, human talent, research, development and AI adoption.
Specifically, in the global score for research, development and adoption (R&D+A), Chile is in a prominent position, along with countries such as Brazil and Uruguay. Our country also leads in the subdimension of infrastructure and human talent, showing a high capacity for training and development in AI.
