With a score of 96 points in the assessment of electoral management bodies, Chile stood out in the results of the Global Electoral Integrity Report, prepared by the Electoral Integrity Project (EIP)—an international academic study that evaluates the quality of electoral processes worldwide based on the perceptions of independent experts and presents data on the quality of national elections around the world in 2025.
The data show that Chile has the highest-rated electoral body in Latin America and ranks third worldwide (along with Portugal, behind Canada, with 98 points, and Denmark, with 97). In Chile, the Electoral Service is the body that, by law, administers, oversees, and monitors electoral and plebiscite processes, among other functions.
“We are very proud of this international recognition of the Electoral Service’s integrity in its management, which is the result of the commitment and professionalism of all its members. We have worked hard and are constantly evaluating our operations, focused on the continuous improvement of our processes, with an eye toward the next election cycle,” said Pamela Figueroa, Chair of Servel’s Board of Directors.
The overall results of the study rank Chile as the country in the Americas with the highest Electoral Integrity Index, alongside Costa Rica (both countries scored 81 points), and place it among the seven highest-ranked countries worldwide. Globally, the 2025 ranking places Sweden in first place, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Lithuania, Norway, the Netherlands, Chile, Costa Rica, Latvia, and Portugal, solidifying our country’s position among the group of democracies with the best electoral performance.
The recent report, released in July 2026, also ranks Chile among the five elections with the highest electoral integrity in 2025, along with Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Canada.
The report notes that the global average for electoral integrity remained stable throughout 2025, with no significant statistical trends toward improvement or deterioration compared to previous years. It also highlights that examples of high electoral integrity can be found in all regions of the world, although significant differences among countries persist.
The Electoral Integrity Project defines electoral integrity as the set of principles that ensure electoral processes capable of strengthening democracy and empowering citizens. Its assessment takes into account the entire electoral cycle, from the legal framework and election administration to campaign financing and coverage, voting, vote counting, and dispute resolution.
The 2025 Global Electoral Integrity Report includes an assessment of 41 national elections held in 41 countries over the past year and is part of a series of assessments conducted since 2012 by the Electoral Integrity Project, an independent academic initiative dedicated to the comparative analysis of the quality of elections around the world.
According to this assessment, Chile has consistently ranked among the countries with the highest electoral integrity in the Americas, maintaining a score of around 80 points during recent election cycles, which reflects a perception of elections with high integrity and sound electoral procedures.
Chile’s ranking in this latest international assessment reflects recognition of the strengthening of its electoral processes and the efforts made to ensure that elections are transparent, reliable, and in line with democratic principles.
