The objective of this agreement is to reach global audiences with high-quality, verified content about Chile in several languages, and to position Chile as a country that promotes free access to knowledge.

With a ceremony in the Art and Science room of the MIM (Museo Interactivo Mirador) an agreement was signed between Imagen de Chile and Wikimedia Chile, a digital ecosystem that hosts the collaborative site Wikipedia, one of the most consulted in the world. This alliance represents the opportunity to promote Chile through a platform of global reach, with verified and updated information, in several languages.

The collaboration agreement also contemplates the contribution of material from the Audiovisual Image Bank of Chile to Wikimedia Commons, in order to enrich the Wikimedia repository with high quality photographs and videos about Chile.

Patricia Díaz Rubio, executive director of Wikimedia Chile, said that "we are interested in positioning Chile as a leader in digital innovation and free access to culture and knowledge. This agreement is valuable because it allows us to amplify the presence of our country in the main open and collaborative knowledge space on the Internet. We want to use this opportunity to strengthen our cultural identity, knowledge and local content, from Wikimedia platforms.

Rossana Dresdner, executive director of Fundación Imagen de Chile added that for the Foundation "it is relevant to work together with Wikimedia Chile, as its digital ecosystem is a first class reference source for people interested in the country's content. Our intention is that the diversity that Chile offers is known through verified and updated information for global and multilingual audiences" she said .

The agreement also includes support for the country's cultural centers that make up the Cultural Institutions Board that works with Imagen de Chile - which includes the Mirador Interactive Museum (MIM), among others - that will be able to enhance their presence on Wikipedia, especially in its English version, as well as digitize and share historical archives and collections. It also contemplates editing information and encouraging citizen participation through workshops and editing events called "editathons" or "Wikimarathons", and holding photo contests to generate more representative local content. "With this commitment we also seek to promote the active involvement of the country's cultural centers, museums and historical collections, to encourage greater citizen participation in the construction of a more representative and diverse knowledge in digital environments," concluded Patricia Díaz.
