Diamela Eltit, considered the most prominent and important Chilean writer in her country, who confronted the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet with ideas, actions, and literature, is the winner of the 2020 Carlos Fuentes International Prize for Literary Creation in the Spanish Language and becomes the second woman to receive it. Previous recipients include Mario Vargas Llosa (2012), Sergio Ramírez (2014), Eduardo Lizalde (2016), Luis Goytisolo (2018), and Luisa Valenzuela (2019).
