Chile celebrates World Tourism Day in all its regions

Throughout the country, it will be celebrated with an intense agenda of activities that seek to promote sustainable and responsible tourism.

This Friday, September 27, Chile will join the celebration of World Tourism Day with a series of activities that will highlight the importance of this industry for the country's economic and social development.

For this week, the Undersecretary of Tourism and Sernatur, through the regional tourism directorates and together with local governments, municipalities, academia and public and private organizations, have organized an agenda of activities to promote sustainable and responsible tourism.

As an official activity of the national tourism institutions, the celebration will take place at the emblematic Paseo Bulnes and the Palacio de La Moneda on Friday, September 27, starting at 6:30 pm. On the promenade, a gastronomic display will be held, while in the front of La Moneda a mapping will be projected that will transport passers-by through the most emblematic landscapes of our country, images that will be visible until around 10:45 p.m.

In addition, the Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Pardo, and the national director of Sernatur, Cristóbal Benítez, will visit some regions of the country to participate in some cleaning operations of tourist attractions with students traveling through the Study Tour program.

This will take place on September 25 and 26 in the regions of Arica and Parinacota; Coquimbo; Valparaíso; Maule; Biobío; La Araucanía and Los Lagos.

World Tourism Day throughout the country

The celebration of World Tourism Day in Chile is not limited to what will take place in the capital. Throughout the week, from September 24 to 30, Chile's sixteen regions will dress up to celebrate with a varied program that includes seminars, tourism fairs, awards ceremonies for outstanding actors in the sector and many other activities that you can check out here.

TUESDAY 24

Monte Patria Cultural Center, Coquimbo Region: Celebration of World Tourism Day, Monte Patria Municipality

Tourism Seminar to encourage, promote and position Monte Patria as a real and quality offer in the region of Coquimbo, supporting the local tourism offer in matters of formalization, quality of service and registration with Sernatur. Businessmen, entrepreneurs and technical high schools of the commune are invited to participate.

Quebrada Alvarado, Olmué, Valparaíso Region: familiarization visit to Los Cóndores Reserve
5 km hike through deep forest to experience the environment of the Biosphere Reserve. The activity is organized by the Municipality of Olmué, within the framework of the ZOIT.

Fundo Santa Victoria, Nancagua, O'Higgins Region: inclusive trekking

Neurodivergence in tourism: discovering nature through new perspectives in a native forest of flora, fauna and fungus, stone nests and sound therapy for relaxation and connection with nature.

Sector Las Cascadas, Puerto Octay, Región de Los Lagos: launching of the campaign 'Los Lagos are S for Sustainable'

As part of the activities of the tourism week, Sernatur Los Lagos will award the R Seal and the S for Sustainability Seal to tourism providers in the province, beneficiaries of the FNDR program 'Strengthening tourism in the Province of Osorno' implemented in 2023 and 2024 by Sernatur Los Lagos. In addition, a digital information totem, acquired for the Osorno provincial office with resources from the same FNDR, will be inaugurated.

WEDNESDAY 25

Caupolicán Avenue, in front of the town hall of Los Vilos, Coquimbo Region: Regional Commemoration of World Tourism Day.

The activity includes a small market of entrepreneurs from the 4 municipalities of the Choapa province, with a total of 20 modules. There will be activations of destination animation of the communes of Los Vilos, Canela, Illapel and Salamanca. In addition, the regional direction of Sernatur Coquimbo will highlight a tourist entrepreneur from each commune of the region for his contribution to communal tourism.

Tourist Information Office in Rancagua, O'Higgins Region: craft show

In the Presidential Delegation building, there will be a craft show of municipalities with municipal tourism distinction and those that are in process. The objective is to showcase craftsmen and craftswomen and their products with local identity and those that are a relevant part of regional tourism.

Teatro Municipal de Quirihue, Ñuble Region: regional celebration of World Tourism Day

On the occasion, the launch of the Itata Valley heritage tourism guide and the web page that will be delivered to the Association of Municipalities of the Itata Valley will take place. This project is executed by the Universidad San Sebastián and financed by the Regional Government of Ñuble.

Plaza de Armas de Bulnes, Ñuble Region: Expo Turismo in Bulnes

Expo Turismo will be the meeting point where entrepreneurs in the field will exhibit their ventures in the Plaza de Armas, as part of the celebration of World Tourism Day.

Hotel Terrano, Concepción, Biobío Region: discussion 'Mega-events and their impact on the economy of the territories through tourism'.

The activity is part of the World Rally Chile Biobío to be held in the Biobío Region from September 26 to 29 and aims to share the experience of mega-events that are held in regions or outside the capitals of the countries, achieving national and international visibility of the territories where they are developed, sharing best practices and lessons learned.

THURSDAY 26TH

Universidad de Tarapacá, Tarapacá Region: first forum Reflections and Challenges for the Sustainability and Competitiveness of Regional Tourism

In the framework of World Tourism Day, sustainability and competitiveness will be the central themes of this activity, which will include presentations and discussions on topics such as astronomical observation, heritage in tourism, the role of academia and the national strategy for sustainable tourism. The activity will begin at 9:00 am.

Hotel Plaza, Los Andes, Valparaíso Region: seminar 'Destinations in harmony: synergies for sustainable tourism in the Aconcagua Valley

Third version of the tourism seminar, focusing on the valley's tourism ecosystem and the community in general. Activity organized by the Vivo Curimón Program of Fundación Lepe, the Integrated Territorial Program (PTI) of Corfo and the municipalities of San Felipe, Santa María, Calle Larga and Los Andes, with the support of Sernatur.

O'Higgins Region: virtual regional meeting with rural entrepreneurs and tourism service providers

Through the Teams platform, this activity will take place within the framework of the collaboration agreement between Indap and Sernatur, whose objective is to disseminate the rural tourism work plan that focuses on making visible and strengthening the work of small enterprises and experiences related to rural tourism.

CEC'S Science Tent, Valdivia, Los Ríos Region: Discovering Los Ríos, regional celebration of World Tourism Day

A series of conferences and presentations focused on the tourism and business sector will be held from September 26 to 28. The talks are aimed at entrepreneurs, businessmen and tourism professionals, with topics on tourism marketing strategies, business management in the sector, innovation in hospitality services and investment opportunities in regional tourism. Business experts, industry leaders and entrepreneurs with local success stories will share their experiences and knowledge, providing valuable insights for the development and strengthening of the tourism sector in Valdivia and the region. In addition, awards will be given to regional entrepreneurs, course certifications for adventure tourism guides, credentials and S and R seals.

FRIDAY 27

Paseo Bulnes and Palacio de La Moneda: national celebration of World Tourism Day

Because we believe that a good dialogue can take place around a good table, this year the celebration will go hand in hand with gastronomy. Also, there will be a mapping in the front of La Moneda, where representative images of national tourism will be projected. This will be an excellent opportunity to enjoy activities and reflect on the positive impact of a strategic economic activity such as tourism.

Iquique Waterfront, El Morro sector, Tarapacá Region: Play and Tour Tarapacá

Activation of a giant interactive game, where tourists and locals can enjoy and participate to learn about the attractions, experiences, flora and fauna of the destination. The 7 municipalities of Tarapacá will participate in this activity. The event will take place in the city of Iquique during the Bodyboard Championship organized by the Municipality of Iquique, and the activation will take place from 10:00 to 14:00 hours.

Carlos Condell Plaza in Caldera, Atacama Region: II Communal Tourism Fair and Gastronomic Contest Flavors of Atacama

As part of the strategic alliance with municipalities with Municipal Tourism Distinction, the commemoration of World Tourism Day 2024 will be part of the actions that seek to strengthen collaborative work, key to the development of tourism in the communal territories. The S Seal, R Seal and awards will be presented to those who have contributed to the development of tourism in its different dimensions.

Collowara Observatory, Coquimbo Region: Celebration of World Tourism Day, commune of Andacollo

Astronomical Mateada, live music, solar observatory. The families of the commune will be invited to a recreational and knowledgeable afternoon. The whole community is invited.

Putaendo, Valparaíso Region: signing of an agreement to promote traditional cuisine with local identity

The agreement was signed by the Municipality of Putaendo and the Culinary Institute. In addition, there will be a gastronomic exhibition and live cooking. Activity organized by the municipality of Putaendo, framed in the ZOIT.

Viña del Mar, Valparaíso Region: regional celebration of World Tourism Day

Regional awards ceremony for outstanding tourism representatives. Activity organized jointly by the regional management of Sernatur and the Regional Tourism Corporation.

Araucano Park, Metropolitan Region: Festitur

Fair organized by the municipality of Las Condes with the collaboration of Sernatur RM. During September 27 and 28, it will have stands with exponents of municipalities, wineries, Promperú, ProColombia, the regions of Coquimbo to Los Lagos, the academy, the Internal Tourism programs of Sernatur and Achiga. The artistic grid contemplates activities and gastronomic sample, tourism awards, free tours within the commune of Las Condes.

Navidad, O'Higgins Region: regional celebration of World Tourism Day

At the Hotel Surazo in the town of Navidad, awards will be presented to those who have developed tourism in the region.

Plaza de Armas de Molina, Maule Region: reception of the Molina Tourist Information Office to Sernatur's Turismo Atiende

In the context of the process of obtaining the seal of Tourism Municipality, Molina has worked together with Sernatur's Turismo Atiende to integrate its tourist information offices to the institutional system and standard, with the aim of expanding the network of attention and service points for visitors.

Viña Prado, Ñuble Region: Jazz at Dusk in Portezuelo

The event is organized by Viña Prado and sponsored by the Municipality of Portezuelo, through the Office of Productive Development. The activity begins at 5:00 p.m. and includes a tour of the facilities, live music, DJ, jazz music show and saxophone duo, gastronomy, art exhibition and a pleasant atmosphere.

Plaza de Armas de San Fabián, Ñuble Region: launching of the National Rafting Championship

In the midst of the celebrations of World Tourism Day, the rafting competition is launched, in an event that will feature the best exponents of Chile, which will also serve as a qualifier for the Pan-American of the specialty. It will feature the presentation of Arawiy, Dani Encina and Vlas.

Hotel Enjoy Pucón and Villarrica waterfront, Araucanía Region: International Meeting on Inclusive Tourism

The purpose is to take advantage of the event and the participation of experts, to advance through communication and information towards inclusive tourism in our country by promoting autonomy, accessibility, human rights and participation of people with disabilities. The activity will take place on Friday 27 at the Hotel Enjoy Pucón and on Saturday 28 at the Villarrica waterfront.

Science Tent CEC'S, Valdivia, Los Ríos Region: Los Ríos Business Meeting

Training day through experiences related by regional tourism entrepreneurs who are dedicated to kayaking in wetlands, winter and mountain tourism, forest bathing and bird watching, aimed at young high school and college students.

CEC'S Science Tent, Valdivia, Los Ríos Region: regional celebration of World Tourism Day and inauguration of Expo Discover Los Ríos

Festive and cultural event designed especially for seniors, celebrating World Tourism Day in Valdivia. This activity seeks to integrate and honor the elderly through a day full of music, dance and local traditions. This activity promotes inclusive tourism and highlights the important role of older adults in the preservation and transmission of local culture. The expo will highlight the rich culinary culture of the region, where visitors will be able to taste typical Valdivian and southern Chilean dishes, as well as enjoy a variety of preparations including fresh seafood, meats, local craft beer and traditional desserts.

Balmaceda Airport, Aysén Region: welcome activation

As a welcome to Aysén Patagonia on World Tourism Day, this activation will be carried out to welcome all tourists arriving on the day's flights.

Plaza de Puerto Aysén, Aysén Region: Aysén Patagonia Fair

Inauguration ceremony of the fair, where recognition and the R Seal will also be awarded to companies in the region. There will also be exhibitions of tourism services, handicrafts and regional products.

MONDAY 30

Wine Network, Santa Cruz, O'Higgins Region: tourism awareness workshop

Sernatur O'Higgins and Indap are organizing this good host workshop aimed at small winemakers in the Colchagua Valley and the Covanicam Cooperative. The activity includes a visit to wineries that have implemented tourist tours.
