More than 60 people make up the Chilean delegation present at the Cannes Film Festival audiovisual market. Animation, documentaries and science fiction will be some of the genres with which Chile will participate in one of the most important global film events.

Today marked the start of the 73rd edition of the Cannes Film Festival in France, one of the world's leading film festivals. In parallel and until July 15, the Marché du Film, the industry section of the festival, will be held, which has become a key event for the exhibition, promotion, networking and search for financing for audiovisual productions.

This year Chile will participate in the main audiovisual market with a delegation of more than 60 people. Animation, documentaries, short films and science fiction are some of the genres with which Chile will be present at this global event.

Cannes Docs, the Marché du Film section oriented to documentaries, will include in its 2021 version an activity dedicated to Chilean projects. Entitled "Docs in Progress Showcase Chile" and organized by Chiledoc, four Chilean documentaries in the editing stage will be screened before industry agents: "Bajo sospecha", directed by Daniel Díaz; "Bastardo. La herencia de un genocida", directed by Pepe Rovano; "Punto de encuentro", directed by Roberto Baeza; and "Edita", directed by Pamela Pollak.

The Chilean animation industry will be present in the Animation Days section with five projects: "Tata Miguel", directed by Tomás Montalva; "Historias clandestinas", directed by José María González; "La veta del diablo", directed by Germán Acuña; "Winnipeg, el barco de la esperanza", directed by Elio Quiroga and Beñat Beitia; and "Uky y Lola en Tierra del Fuego", directed by Fabián Andrade.

As part of the official selection, the world premiere of "El año de la tormenta eterna" (The Year of the Eternal Storm), a collective film composed of several short films made in pandemic, with the participation of prominent international directors, including Chilean director Dominga Sotomayor -the only Latin American representative- stands out.

As for the science fiction, fantasy and horror genre, three national projects will be presented: "Isla Alien", directed by Cristóbal Valenzuela; "Muertes vivas", directed and produced by Sandra Arriagada; and "Fiebre", a film directed by Elisa Eliash.

Through this varied participation, Chile shows the world the talent behind its vibrant audiovisual industry.
