Several foreign media were interested in the "tapu", an ancestral Polynesian philosophy that has been key to contain the spread of the coronavirus on the island, and which is based on self-care, protection and respect for the community to protect the Rapa Nui people against any adversity.

The Independent newspaper of the United Kingdom and Radio Nacional España interviewed Pedro Edmunds Paoa, the island's mayor, to provide details of this Polynesian concept and its role in containing the pandemic, interviews that were managed by Imagen de Chile with the aim of highlighting the ancestral traditions of Chile's native peoples.
The articles also highlight Easter Island's path towards a more sustainable economy and lifestyle, following the guidelines of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
