Santiago in 100 Words Literary Contest: 20 Years of Art and Citizen Participation, Seeking to Create a Better Society for All

Accessibility settings

In 2001, in Santiago de Chile, a journey through words began with the short story contest Santiago en 100 Palabras, which seeks to reward stories of diverse urban realities that connect citizens and serve to imagine and create, from literary art, a better future for all.

Today, the emblematic citizen participation project celebrates 20 years of history. During these two decades it has received close to one million stories written by thousands of Santiago residents who have dared to tell how they live in the city.

Since the first version of the contest, 1 million 300 thousand books have been distributed with the best stories of the contest, with more than a thousand authors of all ages and communities of the Metropolitan Region.

During 2020, "Santiago in 100 Words" adapted to the contingency with online activities and workshops that had more than 60 thousand views.

By reading the stories written in these two decades, we can rediscover our own history and relive memories of key milestones that have marked the city.

Don't miss the launch of this historic release, with a master class by Mexican author Margo Glantz, this January 20 from 18:00 hrs on the Santiago en 100 Palabras Facebook page!
