Chile launched its mass vaccination program for teachers and other school system workers on February 15. Vaccination began with teachers and education assistants over 60 years of age a week earlier than initially planned by the Ministry of Health. In the coming days, more than half a million people working in the Chilean education system will be vaccinated. Education professionals are reluctant to continue the face-to-face classes proposed by the government for March until teachers receive the second dose of the Chinese vaccine Sinovac.
Chile has vaccinated a higher proportion of its citizens than any other country in the region. Nearly two million people have been inoculated out of a total population of 19 million.
