Image of Chile 2022: vote in our rrss to choose those who reflect how Chile is creating the future

Through Imagen de Chile's social networks you can participate to choose both the person and the organization that best embodies the spirit of our country from the talent and creativity of Chileans. There are five finalists per category, find out who they are here.

Seeking to recognize those who best represent how national talent is creating a better future for the world, Imagen de Chile launched two awards that will recognize on the one hand an organization and, on the other hand, a person who represents Chile's contribution to the world in sustainability, quality of life and communities.

"From Imagen de Chile we updated our country brand strategy, which resulted in the concept of "Chile Creating Future", based on the contributions made by Chileans in sustainability, quality of life and communities. It is time for the world to know us for our people and what they can create thanks to their talent, vision and ability to contribute to creating a better future. The Imagen de Chile Award seeks to recognize and value this talent of active agents of a positive country image," said the executive director of Imagen de Chile, Constanza Cea. 

The Image of Chile Awards will have two categories: Company Image of Chile Awardwhich seeks to recognize a company that represents the message of showing our country from its entrepreneurial talent and business model in order to create a better future, and the "Image of Chile" Company Award, which seeks to recognize a company that represents the message of showing our country from its entrepreneurial talent and business model in order to create a better future. Image of Chile Spirit Awardwhich will recognize a person who represents the message of showing our country from their talent and experience in order to create a better future.

The selection criteria for this award include: being of Chilean nationality (Spirit Award), being incorporated in Chile (Company Award), linked to origin and international presence, as well as embodying the values of the country brand: linkage to the future (creating a better future thanks to their talent), entrepreneurship (innovation, connection with the rest of the world), quality of life (incorporating the need to be community friendly, thus respecting their community and seeking to improve the lives of those who integrate it) and citizenship (conscious of the environment and gender equality). 

The 10 finalists (five per category) were chosen through the working groups organized by Imagen de Chile, in the sectors of innovation and entrepreneurship; life and culture; tourism and sports; science and knowledge; and business and export. And now the decision is up to the virtual community of Imagen de Chile, which, through Instagram(@MarcaChile) and Facebook(Marca Chile) has until February 24 to choose a winner in each category.

The nominees for the Spirit Image of Chile Award are the following:

PAOLO BORTOLAMEOLLI: Orchestra Conductor

A world reference in classical music and Associate Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Paolo Bortolameolli has an active concert schedule around the world. Along with his position in Los Angeles, he is also the Principal Guest Conductor of the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra and Artistic Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Esperanza Azteca (Mexico). An important popularizer, he is the creator of the program Ponle Pausa as well as a great variety of talks available on YouTube where his TED Talk in New York stands out and also author of the successful book RUBATO: Procesos musicales and a personal playlist. In addition to having conducted all the most important orchestras in Chile, Paolo has been awarded four times by the Art Critics Association as conductor of the year in both the symphony and opera categories. 

 

KOMAL DADLANI: Co-founder and CEO Lab4U

Komal Dadlani is a Chilean biochemist with a master's degree in Biochemistry from the University of Chile. In 2013 he started Lab4U to democratize science and change the way science is taught with a lab in your pocket through smartphones. Today Lab4U is present in Latin America and the United States, impacting more than 100,000 students with its Lab4Physics, Lab4Chemistry and Lab4Biology products. Komal has been awarded the Cartier Women's Initiative Awards, Toyota Mother of Invention Award, MIT Technology Review 35 Under 35 Leaders in LatAm , Ashoka Fellow, Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, and recognized internationally by The New York Times, Forbes, People Magazine, CNBC and the BBC for her work at Lab4U.

 

ALEXIS KALERGIS: Professor and Researcher at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Dr. Alexis Kalergis is Full Professor at the Faculty of Biological Sciences and Medicine of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, he completed two post-doctorates at Albert Einstein and Rockefeller University. He directs the Millennium Institute in Immunology and Immunotherapy, a center of excellence in international translational science. He has served as an advisor to governmental and legislative committees and as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of ICGEB (UN Agency). He is leading a scientific and clinical study project of one of the most advanced COVID19 vaccines. In addition, he is Director of the Scientific-Clinical Study of the Sinovac vaccine, which resulted in the preferential, priority and early supply of the necessary doses for the mass vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in Chile.

 

HELEN KOUYOUMDJIAN: executive vice president of Fedetur.

Helen Kouyoumdjian, currently serves as Executive Vice President of Fedetur. She holds a Master's Degree in Tourism Management from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and was Head of Division and Investment at the Undersecretary of Tourism. In that function she headed the execution of Chile's national and international tourism promotion, the development of new destinations and experiences, and the certification of labor competencies. In his role within Fedetur, he has been in charge of representing the country's tourism industry as part of the South American Tourism Federation. She has also participated in international events as an invited speaker to present the scope of tourism in Chile. Helen was also General Manager of the Chilean Tourism Promotion Corporation (later renamed Turismo Chile), and Commercial Director of Crowne Plaza Hotels Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

AURELIO MONTES: President of Wines of Chile

Aurelio is one of the most recognized personalities in the Chilean wine industry for being a key player in the internationalization of the product and for his trajectory as founder and principal partner of Viña Montes, one of the most prestigious Chilean wineries. He holds a degree in Agronomy and Winemaking from the Universidad Católica. After years of working at Viña Undurraga and Viña San Pedro, in 1988 he decided to found Viña Montes, convinced that the quality that could be obtained in Chilean wines could be appreciated and valued in the world. That dream quickly became a reality and today he is an example and a guide for Chilean wineries to follow that path. Additionally, he served as vice president at the National Agricultural Society and Wines of Chile between 2013 and 2015, with a focus on foreign markets. Today he is President of Wines of Chile for the second consecutive term.

Lotus

Company whose mission is to produce and design live music events of international standard, creating unforgettable experiences that contribute to the happiness and dreams of the public and collaborators, in harmony with society and the environment, always contributing to the development of culture in Chile. Hundreds of artists have participated in the company's concerts and festivals. It is the producer responsible for the Lollapalooza Festival in Chile, which in 2011 left the United States for the first time with a historic event in Chile, gathering to date more than 1.4 million people.

Kura Biotech 

Chilean biotechnology company located in Puerto Varas and the United States, world leader in the development and production of enzymatic reagents for drug detection, present in more than 15 countries and with clients such as Mayo Clinic, the FBI and the Olympic Games; transforming waste from marine industries into world-class inputs. They also participate in the Proteomics and Genomics industry, where they became the first Chilean company to develop PCR kits for Covid-19 detection, used today by more than 50 public and private laboratories nationwide.

They do this primarily through their Give Back program and the Lichen Foundation, created by Kura, which receives 2% of gross sales annually. These funds are invested to finance social aid projects in the areas of Children, Education and Environment, projects that are chosen and managed by the "Kurians" themselves. Since its creation to date, more than 40 initiatives have been supported in the Los Lagos region.  

 

Rewilding Chile 

Fundación Rewilding Chile, formerly Tompkins Conservation Chile, is a non-profit foundation, a legacy of Douglas and Kristine Tompkins, who in the early 1990s decided to dedicate their lives to conserving the beauty and biodiversity of Chilean Patagonia to counteract the crisis of species extinction and climate change. Through collaborative work, the foundation has created 7 national parks and expanded 3 others, positioning the Patagonia Parks Route as a world reference in large-scale conservation, based on its scenic beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage. Through Rewilding or ecological restoration, they have focused their efforts on achieving complete ecosystems through the restoration of forests, steppe, and the active management of endangered species, such as the huemul and the ñandú.
