At the meeting, Minister Jobet pointed out that Chile has great potential in the development of green hydrogen because its energy matrix is increasingly renewable, as the country has a great resource in solar and wind energy due to the geographical conditions of the territory, and that it can become a new pole of progress for Chile, such as the copper industry.

The Ministry of Energy is currently working on the National Green Hydrogen Strategy, which is expected to be officially presented during the second half of 2020. In this way, Chile would join the small group of countries that are already designing their roadmaps for the development of this industry.

Along these lines, Gonzalo Muñoz, Champion of COP25 and member of the advisory board of the National Green Hydrogen Strategy, added that it is crucial to accelerate the production of green hydrogen in the world to reach the planetary goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. The other members of the advisory board are: former President Ricardo Lagos, former Environment Minister Marcelo Mena, Executive Director of the Fiscal Observatory Foundation Jeanette von Wolfersdorff, economist Klaus Schmidt-Hebbel and former Defense Minister Vivianne Blanlot.
