Chile is one of the leading countries in the region in gender equality and as part of the commemoration of International Women's Day, Fundación Imagen de Chile sought to reflect this progress through a campaign that portrays the lives of ordinary but powerful Chilean women.

This campaign seeks to highlight these stories, which reflect the identity of Chilean women and, through them, of the country: strong, innovative, empowered". Rossana Dresdner, executive director of Imagen de Chile.

What characterizes us as Chilean women and makes us different from the rest of the world? That is the question that the campaign "Chile, Country of Women" seeks to explore, through eight stories of Chilean women who stand out for their essence, their brilliance, their way of being, their actions and their contribution to a Chile that is diverse, modern and unmistakable at the same time.

From a woman who leads a mining site, a young violinist, an influencer with Mapuche roots, or an entrepreneur in the education system, are part of the stories of this new campaign of Imagen de Chile that seeks to capture the identity seal of Chile expressed in its women.

"Today there are many women who are leading change in different areas, and most of them do not do it from highly visible spaces. This campaign seeks to highlight these stories, which reflect the identity of Chilean women and, through them, of the country: strong, innovative, empowered", says Rossana Dresdner, executive director of Imagen de Chile.

The campaign presents eight Chilean women who make life choices of self-improvement, with effort and daring, becoming an inspiration and example for many.

Bridging the gap between men and women

Gender equity is today one of the strengths that distinguishes Chile. As an example, it is the Latin American country with the highest participation of women in ministerial cabinets, has more than 20% of managerial positions occupied by women, and has doubled female participation in large-scale mining in the last 10 years.

"Today our country leads in gender equity in South America and this is undoubtedly not only something that characterizes us, but also something we are proud of. Therefore, it is for us something distinctive of our country image and that of course we have proposed to highlight", says Rossana Dresdner referring to the campaign, "Today our country leads in gender equity in South America and that is certainly not only something that characterizes us but also something that makes us proud. Therefore, it is for us something distinctive of our country image and that of course we have proposed to highlight", says Rossana Dresdner referring to the campaign.

The Global Gender Gap Report 2023, conducted by the World Economic Forum, revealed a 69% reduction in the "maximum gap" between men and women worldwide. Chile, meanwhile, appears with a relevant jump of 20 positions compared to the 2022 measurement, rising from position 47 to 27 of the list, being the first in South America and the third in the American continent.

According to the report, the main advance is in the political empowerment sub-index, which improved by almost 14 percentage points. This is the result of the increase in the number of women in the ministerial cabinet since the beginning of March 2023. On the other hand, female electoral participation has also increased and, for the last Constitutional Plebiscite, 52% of the electoral roll were women. However, challenges remain, especially in economic participation and opportunity, which measures, among other things, the gap in labor participation, wages and access to leadership positions. In this dimension, Chile ranks 96th out of 146 countries, with a gap of 36%.
