Street pressure in Latin America shows disaffection with democratic institutions. The crisis will deepen inequality. Could the Chilean constituent process be a reference?
"The constituent process in Chile will be a benchmark," Javi Lopez, co-president of the Euro-Latin American Assembly (Eurolat), told DW in Brussels. At a time when the street in Latin America is taking up again the pressure it had to abandon due to the measures against the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the southern country is perhaps laying the first stone of a new social pact. Continental? In the more than a dozen electoral appointments that will take place in the American continent between 2021 and 2024, this is a citizen demand.
