“They didn’t expect a Chilean to come up with a solution, and in the end they said, ‘This guy ’s from another planet.’”

He was the only Chilean in that conference room and one of the first Chileans that many of those present had ever met. Sure, there were Argentines, Brazilians, and Mexicans—but a Chilean?

“Chile?” his colleagues would ask him in surprise. His motto, “Why not?” reflected not only the creativity behind the initiative but also the attitude of a team determined to prove that it was possible to do something from Chile that the world had never seen before.

That day, Muchnick was supposed to present the idea to a group of executives from different countries. Based on his impression, Matías imagined that they were thinking, “Look at these Chileans—we don’t know what they’re capable of.”

After hearing him speak, the attendees would no longer wonder what Chile was. They would wonder what Chileans are capable of doing.

We are Matías Muchnick.
We are Chile.
