The company, which recently celebrated its 63rd anniversary, has performed in major theaters in the United States, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, Argentina, Spain, Hungary, Germany, China and Mexico.

After two years without public activities due to the pandemic, the Ballet de Santiago was finally able to reactivate tours within the country and does not rule out performing abroad. It was at the beginning of April on the stages of Talca and Chillán where the company met again with the audience.

"We were very happy and the people from the regions were very grateful that we were able to go. In fact, tickets sold out very quickly and we had to do streaming. It was a very good experience!" recalls Luis Ortigoza, artistic director of Ballet de Santiago.

The company is currently rehearsing Carmen, a work based on the opera by Georges Bizet, which will premiere in May at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago. For the rest of the year, the program includes Giselle, Swan Lake and Nutcracker, among other classics.

The Ballet de Santiago, which celebrated its 63rd anniversary on April 13, has a wide repertoire that includes classical, neoclassical and contemporary works. As a stable artistic body of the Teatro Municipal de Santiago, the company presents an annual season and offers free performances to reach new audiences both in Santiago and in the regions.

During the pandemic, the Municipal Theater broadcast operas, ballets and concerts through the virtual platform Municipal Delivery, which were very well received by the public. "Thanks to this we were able to reach all of Chile, from Arica to Punta Arenas, and it has been a fantastic approach to the public, as we have had more than 13 million views. Therefore, we know that the public is avid about ballet and that many people like ballet. Always, in one way or another, the contact with the public has remained. And now that we can be there in person, they write to us to come to their cities", says Luis.

Founded in 1959, the Ballet de Santiago has performed on important stages in the United States, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, Argentina, Spain, Hungary, Germany, China and Mexico.
