Why Chile is doing so well with vaccines

Ajustes de accesibilidad

This is due both to the ordering in advance of vaccines from different laboratories, including Sinovac from China, and to a well-organized roll-out.

Among the countries making the most progress with coronavirus vaccines is Chile, which was also one of the Latin American countries hardest hit by the pandemic.  Chile does not have the economic resources of the United States or the European Community, but in just a few months they have managed to vaccinate more than 20% of the population with at least their first dose.  This is not only due to a well-organized vaccination roll-out, but also to the negotiating capacity of the Chilean government, which among other things, decided to order vaccines early on from different laboratories.

To date, more the 860,000 coronavirus infections and over 21,000 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported in Chile.  After some relatively stable months, starting in December, coinciding with the start of summer, the number of infections started to increase again, reaching 5,325 daily cases on March 5.  To date, however, more than 4 million of the approximately 19 million inhabitants of Chile have been vaccinated with at least the first dose.  These numbers are much higher than the majority of other countries that started vaccinations weeks before Chile, including Italy.
